“Terrible athlete” – Daniel Sturridge joins fans’ outrage against Toni Kroos and referee Anthony Taylor during the European Championship quarter-final between Germany and Spain
It doesn’t take long for fans to turn against a player. The German superstar Toni Kroos may have learned the hard way tonight. The German superstar had the support of fans around the world ahead of the Euros after the player announced that this would be his last football appearance. However, during the game against Spain, fans were furious with the player after his ill-advised tackle resulted in Spaniard Pedri leaving the game with a limp.
The incident occurred in the opening minutes of the match when both Toni Kroos and Pedri reached for the ball. It was the Spaniard who came out of the hard side of the tackle, going down and clutching his knee. Toni Kroos seemed shocked by referee Anthony Taylor’s decision to whistle for a foul, but some fans were unhappy with the lenient punishment. Former football star Daniel Sturridge also supported the claim, adding that Kroos should have been booked for the tackle on Rodri.
It’s a shame to lose a player like Pedri so early. I’m shocked it wasn’t a booking…

Fans criticize referee Anthony Taylor for letting Toni Kroos pass unhindered
With the game still suspended, things could have turned out very differently if Toni Kroos had been sent off for his foul on Pedri. One fan commented that Kroos did not seem bothered by Pedri’s injury, which should not be the case for a professional player. Another fan criticised the statement, claiming that the German was a “terrible athlete”.
Manchester United fan and social media personality Mark Goldberg claimed that the favouritism towards Kroos was quite obvious and that the match should have been called a Toni Kroos spectacle.
Another blatant foul by Kroos on the edge of the penalty area was not punished. You could also call it the Tony Kroos spectacle

One fan claimed that Anthony Taylor was a very bad referee throughout the game and, despite having the chance to give Kroos a card, instead asked the Spanish players to continue playing.

Another fan also accused Kroos of being given preferential treatment by the referee because, despite his ill-considered tackles, he had not received two yellow cards within 10 minutes.
Toni Kroos got away with two yellow cards in 10 minutes here, despite committing two fouls. When you consider that the referee comes from the Premier League, you can understand that.#EURO2024 pic.twitter.com/sGMqU6a7td
