Reecewho lives in Italy, was recruited for ACCEPT‘S “Eat the heat” LP in 1989. Its higher pitch was in sharp contrast to the original ACCEPT Singer Udo Dirkschneider‘s distinctive style, and overall the album was a critical and commercial disappointment. In the middle of “Eat the heat” Tour, differences between the band and Reece had escalated and led to an argument between the singer and the bassist. Peter Baltes in Chicago. End of 1989 ACCEPT had hung it up.

Asked by Via Nocturna 2000 YT how he looks back on his time with ACCEPT, Reece said: “Well, I can be completely honest – it was super positive and super negative, but I wouldn’t be talking to you right now if I hadn’t made that album. The doors were opened, the floodgates were broken. The critics hated me. Some loved me. But I have to be honest and say that was the chance of a lifetime. I did my best. I have no animosity towards those guys. I don’t care what they do; they don’t care what I do; but I’m grateful for the chance. It speaks volumes as a singer that I was chosen out of 50 other people. It was a difficult job.”

David further said that his connection with ACCEPT a call landed from JUDAS PRIEST after the latter band split up Robert Halford“I could really sing so well back then,” he said. “It was me, Ralf Scheepers (ORIGINAL FEAR) And Ripper Owens; (we) were the three best. So they chose Pick-up artist. But six months later they contacted me and said, ‘Come to England and let’s jam.’ So it obviously did a lot of good for me.”

Accordingly Reecehe looks back on “Eat the heat” affectionately. “I mean, everyone has an album they regret, but when you regret an album, you might not think clearly about the personal turmoil that was going on during the album,” he explained. “That might affect how you think about it. And I’ve come to my old, mature state where I can say, ‘This is damn good.’ I still play ‘XTC’ And ‘Express Train’ And ‘Hellhammer’ live and “Generational struggle”and people go crazy. That’s why these songs are timeless for people.”

In January 2021 Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann called “Eat the heat” “a dark time in our history ACCEPT. I would say that the 90s as a whole were very difficult and in some ways very dark and I don’t even like to think about it that much,” he said Hard Rock Haven. “If you journalists didn’t ask me about it all the time, I would never think of it. (Laughs) Because at that time, heavy metal was going through a very dark phase. The traditional sound had gone out of fashion and nobody wanted to hear it, so people were looking for a new direction – especially in the 90s. ‘Eat the heat’ came out at the beginning of that era and was supposed to be a new chapter, but it just never worked out because basically everything went wrong with that album. And that’s just what you go through in life. I don’t understand why I still have to defend myself somehow… People always ask me that question almost provocatively, like I have to defend myself about that album. It’s ridiculous… It’s almost like people have to apologize for liking it.”

He continued, “There’s something about that album that bothers a lot of people and they have such strong opinions about it… It’s ridiculous sometimes. In my opinion, it had some fantastic songs but they just never got executed properly and that wasn’t the intention. But over the years I’ve met so many fans who have said the exact same thing: ‘Man, I really want to apologize, but I really like this album… I know nobody likes it, but I think it’s great.’ And I find that so bizarre. If you like it, you like it. It’s so weird that people have that opinion about it.

“It’s just music,” wolf explained. “You can like it or not, but that’s all it is. In any case, it was not a time I look back on fondly, because it was very difficult.”

Reece also played with CAMPFIRE And BANGALORE CHOIR.
