Andrea Bocelli calls Johnny Depp a rock star before her concert

Andrea Bocelli praises Johnny Depp before their upcoming joint concert appearance.

Bocelli, 65, whose concert film Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration will be released in theaters this fall, and announced on Instagram on July 3 that 61-year-old Depp will join him as a special guest at the upcoming concert series.

“A disarmingly charming actor who has brought countless iconic characters to life on the big screen, this versatile artist’s musical talents are equally intense: a true rock star who is loved and applauded everywhere,” the singer wrote about Depp on Instagram.

“I have fond memories of playing and singing with Johnny Depp when he visited my house in Tuscany,” Bocelli added. “We are delighted to announce that this unexpected couple will perform again – and this time in public, as their fans will be delighted.”

“We would like to thank Johnny for accepting our invitation. It will be a pleasure to welcome him on the stage of the Teatro del Silenzio.”

Bocelli had previously announced that he would celebrate his 30th anniversary in the music business with a series of three concerts on July 15, 17 and 19 in his hometown of Lajatico, Italy.

At the time, Bocelli announced that stars such as Ed Sheeran, Shania Twain, Jon Batiste, Russell Crowe, Sofia Vergara, David Foster, Christian Nodal, Sofia Carson, Laura Pausini, Tiziano Ferro, Zucchero, Giorgia and his children Matteo and Virginia would accompany him at the event, as well as classical musicians Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Lang Lang, Aida Garifullina, Bryn Terfel and Nadine Sierra.

Sam Wrench, the filmmaker who directed Taylor Swift: The Era Tourwill direct the concert film, which will be shot during Bocelli’s three-day celebration. It will premiere at the same time as Bocelli begins his fall North American tour, which begins September 30 in Monterrey, Mexico, and continues through December 21 in Los Angeles.

“As a child, I learned to dream of my future in the magical silence of these hills,” Bocelli said in April in a press release about the concert series. “Then life made that dream come true.”

“Today, 30 years later, I can only imagine celebrating my career and my life, its strength and its wondrous beauty here at the Teatro del Silenzio, surrounded by such wonderful artists and friends,” he added. “I would like to thank everyone who helped make my childhood dreams come true with an unforgettable concert.”

In addition to his acting career, Depp is an accomplished guitarist and singer. He released an album with the late Jeff Beck entitled 18in July 2022, several months before Beck’s death in January 2023. He most recently performed live at a special event in London to honor Beck’s 80th birthday.
