PROTOPOROS (JPN) (c, 4, War Front–Cavale Doree {Fr}, by Sunday Break {Jpn})a debut winner who lasted this distance at Chukyo for the Carrot Farm syndicate just over two years ago, was a good fourth in the Group 3 on his next appearance and was last seen taking on a Chukyo grant in January 2023 (see below, SC 4) after suffering a broken pelvis according to published reports. The colt’s dam, winner of the 2016 G3 Prix du Cavaldos and third to New Money Honey (Medaglia d’Oro) in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf of the same year, was bought by Katsumi Yoshida with this colt at the 2019 Tattersalls December Mares Sale for 650,000 guineas. Cavale Doree is a half-sister to Horizon Dore (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}), a three-time winner at Group level in France and most recently third behind Auguste Rodin (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in the G1 Prince of Wales’s S. at Royal Ascot.
