The 8 best new series on Netflix in July 2024

Prison Break – Best new series on Netflix, July 2024

July 2024 is already a few days old and Netflix has a ton of great series that have either already been released or are coming soon. Below we present eight new series that you should have on your radar, all of which are coming out this month.

Similar to our movie roundup (where we chose three Netflix originals and five licensed titles for July), we’re going to split this article in half. We’ll first cover the Netflix originals we’re most excited about in July 2024, and then move on to some of the licensed titles coming specifically to the United States (though they may already be streaming or may land elsewhere as well).

For the full list of what’s coming to Netflix in July 2024, check out What’s on Netflix here.

The most eagerly awaited Netflix original series will be released in July 2024

Cobra Kai (Season 6 – Part 1)

Coming soon to Netflix: 18 July

What a journey Cobra Kai and its characters have been on. What began as a YouTube show before becoming a hit on Netflix, the Karate Kid spin-off series will end with an extra-long final season, which the creators say will consist of three mini-seasons.

Here’s the official synopsis for Part 1: “With Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide whether and how to participate in the Sekai Taikai – the Karate World Championships.”

These first five episodes will be followed by five more in November, and the finale event is planned for sometime in 2025.

Exploding Kittens (Season 1)

Coming soon to Netflix: 15th of July

As a huge fan of the card game and the mobile game that later came out on Netflix, I’m excited to see how this new adult animated series works because on paper, it’s just completely insane.

Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman (the game’s co-creators) are on board for the series, which depicts the eternal conflict between God and the Antichrist as they live out their lives as reincarnated chubby house cats.

The series’ impressive voice cast includes Suzy Nakamura, Tom Ellis, Ally Maki, Mark Proksch and Sasheer Zamata.

Vikings: Valhalla (Season 3)

Coming soon to Netflix: 11 July

After 24 episodes and three seasons Vikings: Valhalla will end with this third final batch, over two years after Season 1 first debuted on the streamer.

This season continues the momentum of the historical drama’s previous seasons and is set seven years after the pivotal events of the second season. Freydis is now the leader of pagan Jomsborg. However, new threats and challenges lurk in the distance.

One of our team members has already watched the entire third season and from what he told me (I can’t give out exact details as the release date is embargoed), it sounds like the series will end on a high note.

Cleo (Season 2)

Coming soon to Netflix: 25 July

For our final selection, we look internationally to Germany, where the second (and somewhat unexpected) season of the explosive historical drama thriller “Kleo” will soon be released in cinemas, in which Jella Haase plays the leading role.

When the first season premiered on Netflix two years ago, it received a ton of great reviews, although it never really broke through internationally. Set after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the series is about a spy who is released on a quest for revenge.

According to Netflix, here’s what you can expect from season two:

“The hunt for the red suitcase continues. The former GDR spy Kleo is determined to get it back and destroy it once and for all – while the West Berlin police officer Sven tries everything to rehabilitate himself in Kleo’s eyes and work with her again. She is exactly the dose of adrenaline that he was missing in his work.”

Best licensed series coming to Netflix in July 2024

Lost (Seasons 1-6)

Added to Netflix: July 1

If you are reading this, all six seasons of Lost are already streaming on Netflix. Following its return, the show has already attracted a lot of media attention and some controversial opinions, including one about which episodes to skip – blasphemy!

Arguably one of the most influential television series in history, Lost follows a group of survivors who crash-land on a strange and mysterious island. The series features some big-name stars, and while some parts of the series haven’t exactly aged gracefully, it’s worth checking out if you’ve never seen it before.

In the US, only Netflix received Lost on the first of the month, although we’re told the series will be available in other regions later in the year.

Star Trek: Prodigy (Season 2)

Coming soon to Netflix: July 1

Similar to Lost, Season 2 of the animated Star Trek series Prodigy is already streaming as you read this. Since Netflix rescued this series from disappearing, you would have thought it would be labeled as a Netflix Original, but that’s not the case, which is why we’ve listed it here.

The second season, which has been added to the streamer worldwide, picks up where the first left off and follows six young outsiders who are given a new mission aboard the USS Voyager-A: to rescue Captain Chakotay.

Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Bow (Season 1)

Staying with animation, we move on to the highly anticipated series Kinnikuman, which will be released weekly on Netflix in the US and other countries around the world starting July 8.

From the studio behind Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, Ultraman, Great Pretender, and countless other popular anime titles, Kinnikuman returns to the ring to battle new and familiar foes in this new entry in the manga adaptation.

Prison breakout

Coming soon to Netflix: 29th of July

Strangely, Netflix has left out Prison breakout previewing the new releases for July and gave press agencies a preview of what was coming up in the month. Fortunately, we have confirmed that Prison breakout is still set to return to Netflix after several years of exclusive presence on Hulu.

Every single episode is gripping and the show doesn’t let up throughout all 90 episodes. They follow Michael Scofield as he attempts to free his brother Lincoln Burrows from a government facility after he is falsely accused of murder.

With all the buzz surrounding revivals and reboots (which are still in the works), there’s no better time to revisit Fox River State Penitentiary.
