9 cases where Hilary Farr was strict with homeowners

Hilary Farr is challenged in Season 2, Episode 5 of “Tough Love with Hilary Farr” (as per HGTV UK) by a homeowner who is keen to have a bench in the kitchen. She explains that her children need to sit somewhere because the proposed bar stools would be too high for them. Farr refuses to incorporate a bench into the design, stating that the homeowner’s request is a temporary problem. She candidly states, “Where and why would you want a bench and table there? So, basically, I can just say we’re not doing a bench and table there. That’s not going to happen.” After some back and forth, Farr’s stubbornness wins out and the bench idea is scrapped.

When the homeowners see the new kitchen at the end of the renovation, they are thrilled with how it turned out. Farr installed a huge kitchen island with plenty of seating for the whole family. She also placed a low kid’s table and chairs at the other end of the room for the kids to play at. This solves the temporary height problem until they are tall enough to sit at the kitchen island. Farr’s experience reminds us that we shouldn’t plan major renovations, like a kitchen renovation, around a problem that won’t be there in a few years. The homeowner concedes, saying, “Hilary was right about the bench. I admit defeat.”
