It’s not very often that we get updates on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sales numbers—after all, Microsoft hasn’t officially announced them in years—but courtesy of Famitsu, it looks like they’ve hit a new milestone in Japan.
The Japanese outlet reports this week that the two Xbox consoles have sold around 600,000 units in total, with the Xbox Series S leading the pack with 315,431 units. Note that these are “estimated” numbers:
- Xbox Series X: 285,014 units
- Xbox Series S: 315,431 units
Considering the combined sales of the PS5 (over 5 million) and Nintendo Switch (over 30 million), the above numbers are obviously disappointing. However, it should be remembered that Microsoft only sold a little over 100,000 consoles in Japan during the Xbox One’s lifetime, and the Xbox 360 only ended up selling around 1.6 million units.
This latest generation is a big improvement over the last, but of course from an Xbox perspective there is still a lot of work to be done in Japan. Unless Microsoft feels it is no longer a priority.
