Nominate yourself as a voice of the voluntary sector

  • Expressions of interest for the Volunteering Community Reference Group are now open
  • Representatives from the voluntary sector are invited to apply
  • The group represents an important link between the sector and the state government

The Cook Government is calling on people to make the voluntary sector’s voice heard by applying to join the Volunteering Community Reference Group (the Reference Group).

The Reference Group, established under the Minister for Volunteering Don Punch, provides an important link between the sector and the State Government.

The role of the Reference Group is to inform the State Government about current developments and issues in the sector and to provide feedback on the implementation of the WA Volunteer Strategy.

Expressions of interest for the reference group are open to people from the voluntary sector and membership is valid for two years.

Young people, LGBTQIA+ people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people of cultural and linguistic diversity, people with disability and people living in regional and remote areas of Western Australia are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Volunteering Community Reference Group will consist of 12 to 15 members and will include representatives from the volunteer sector – including individuals and organisations as well as the industry umbrella organisation Volunteering WA and the Department of Communities.

The expressions of interest process will create a pool of members from which to draw on for volunteers. Visit http://www.volunteeringwa.org.au/vcrg to register your interest by 4pm on Friday 9 August 2024.

As Minister for Volunteering Don Punch explained:

“The Volunteering Community Reference Group plays an important role in representing the interests of the sector and helping to guide future State Government investments.

“It is vital that the sector has a say in shaping the future of volunteering in Western Australia and this reference group is just one of the ways the Cook Government is ensuring this happens.

“I would strongly encourage people to apply to join the Volunteering Community Reference Group and give the sector a voice.

“The Cook administration values the countless hours volunteers put in each year to make our communities better places.”
