Chandigarh, January 29: The Haryana government on Friday suspended internet service except phone calls in 13 districts of the state till 5 pm on January 30. The places where internet service has been suspended till 5 pm tomorrow are Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, Rewari and Sirsa, the state Directorate of Information and Public Relations said. The order has been issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and order within the jurisdiction of these districts and comes into force with immediate effect. Violence at tractor rally: Protesters snatched magazines from police and stole anti-riot equipment, the complaint says.

Mobile internet services were suspended in these districts on Tuesday after a violent farmers’ protest rocked neighbouring Delhi. On Thursday, the Haryana government had extended the suspension of mobile internet services, SMS services and all dongle services in Sonipat, Palwal and Jhajjar districts till Friday. Voice calls were exempted from the order. “The Haryana government has extended the suspension of telecom services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services etc. provided through mobile networks, except voice calls, in the jurisdiction of Sonipat, Palwal and Jhajjar for the next 24 hours up to 5 pm on January 29,” the order said.

On January 26, authorities in Haryana had shut down mobile internet and other telecom services and banned voice calls. The decision was taken in view of the violence at the farmers’ tractor rally on Republic Day in Delhi. On Republic Day 2021, the tractor parade held to highlight the farmers’ unions’ demand for repeal of the three farm laws turned violent as protesters deviated from the designated routes, attacked the police and hoisted a religious flag on the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort.
