Twitch streamer in Miami helps Michigan family search for missing teenager

(NewsNation) – A 17-year-old Michigan boy who had been missing for about three months has been found safe and sound in Miami thanks to a chance encounter with someone doing a live stream on Twitch.

Troy Coleman of Mt. Morris Township, Michigan, about 80 miles northwest of Detroit, disappeared in May. Troy was without medication he takes for mental health issues that his brother Trent described as schizophrenic.

Then last week on the streaming platform Twitch, a content producer named FaZe Lacy was streaming with a friend named Clix in Miami. During the stream, Lacy focused on a shirtless boy in green swim trunks mingling with the crowd.

A few days later, Lacy found this message in his email: “Hi, my name is Trent Coleman and my missing little brother from Michigan was at Clix and Lacy’s Stream in Miami. He is not on drugs, he is schizophrenic. He has been missing for three months and his case has been dismissed as homicide in Michigan.”

Lacy assumes the murder reference means that police believed Troy was the victim of a murder. On his X-page, Lacy said it seemed like the story had a happy ending.

“Yesterday on stream he came to me and Clix and now his family knows he is alive and in Miami. I wasn’t sure if I should make this public but I hope it somehow helps his family find him,” Lacy wrote.

Flint Township Police confirmed that the boy shown in the stream is Troy Coleman. On their Facebook page, police wrote: “A big THANK YOU to everyone who shared information on missing person Troy Coleman. He has been found safe and sound in Miami, Florida and we are working with local authorities to arrange his safe return to Michigan to be with his family.”
