Sad wife calls police when her husband scrolls through Facebook and realizes he has committed a ‘love crime’

A Houston man is facing bigamy charges after his wife made the shocking discovery while browsing Facebook that he was married to another woman.

Marcus Andra Shorten, 53, is currently married to two or more women, police said – after his third wife Tammie exposed her husband’s alleged crimes on social media.

Tammie married Shorten in 2012 but divorced in 2019. In an interview, she claimed the couple never officially divorced because Shorten feared being seen as a “failure”.

Shorten’s latest wife came into the picture in December when Tammie found a wedding registry for her and her husband online. A wedding photo obtained by DailyMail.com appears to show the ceremony, which took place earlier this year.

The name of this woman is unknown and there is no indication that she knew of Shorten’s illegal activities. Police are now searching for him after finding two marriage certificates but no divorce decrees. He is currently facing charges of bigamy.

Third wife Tammie, who asked that her identity be kept secret, uncovered her husband’s sordid crimes when she was browsing Facebook and found the couple’s wedding registry, she told ABC 13. Police confirmed they are searching for Shorten, who is charged with a third-degree felony that could earn him a prison sentence of 10 years.

“You can’t just go around lying and misleading people out of complacency,” Tammie said in an interview with ABC13 where she did not want to show her face.

“I told him, ‘Before you tell the whole world what you’re doing, make sure your business is in order,'” she continued, embarrassed by the attention.

“It’s not that you don’t know what divorce is, because you’ve been married several times.

“I was made a fool of,” she concluded.

According to the now-uncovered register, Shorten and his last wife married in January – after Tammie said she confronted her former flame about knowing about his impending wedding.

She reportedly reminded him that they were still married, but he went through with the bigamous marriage anyway, it is said.

ABC13 also obtained this marriage certificate and published a picture of it in its report.

Social media posts from Shorten’s family from this time show the two at the wedding celebration. His sister Monica Shorten writes over a film strip superimposed with wedding photos: “Happy birthday to my only big brother.”

In a phone call with a reporter from the network, Shorten denied being married to anyone and said he was unaware of the – rare – allegation of bigamy.

ABC13 also received the marriage certificate and published a picture of it in its Wednesday report.
“You can’t just go around lying and misleading other people, just like your own style,” Tammie said in an interview with ABC13 in which she chose not to show her face.
“It’s not that you don’t know what divorce is because you’ve been married several times,” she added.

However, it is a third-degree crime, which carries a maximum sentence of ten years not only in Texas but also in the rest of the country.

“I was made a fool of,” she concluded, sharing photos of herself and her estranged husband. He has at least two wives, but there may be more, cops said.

However, bigamy is a third-degree crime, punishable not only in Texas but also throughout the country by a maximum sentence of ten years.

Bigamy is defined as the act of performing a marriage with one person while legally married to another – not to be confused with polygamy,

Polygamy is the practice of having more than one spouse at the same time. This means that one must practice bigamy to experience polygamy.

Both are considered crimes, and Texas bigamy law gives police the right to arrest someone they believe has married someone while still married to someone else.

In addition to his prison sentence, Shorten could face a fine of up to $10,000 under state law.
