Chris Grayling receives surprise knighthood from Rishi Sunak as company dissolves

Former Cabinet Minister Chris Grayling The title of nobility was awarded by Rishi Sunak in a surprising series of election resolution tributes released late on Election Day.

He was once described as the “most incompetent minister of all time” because of his leadership of the Ministry of Transport in Theresa May’s Government, Grayling will now be able to sit in the House of Lords.

He was also Minister of Labour, Lord President, Minister of Justice and Speaker of the House of Commons under Cameron.

The chairman of the Tory backbench group 1922 Committee, Graham Brady, was also nominated by Sunak, as was former Prime Minister Theresa May.

The Tory leader even nominated his chief of staff in Downing Street, Liam Booth-Smith, for appointment as a peerage.

Booth-Smith ran Sunak’s unsuccessful 2022 leadership campaign and was recently questioned by the Gambling Commission as part of its investigation into election date betting, although he is not believed to have placed any bets himself.

The previous Climate Conference 26 President, Alok SharmaDeputy Speaker of the House Dame Eleanor Laing and former backbencher Craig Mackinlay – who made headlines earlier this year for losing his hands and feet due to sepsis – also made it onto Sunak’s peerage list.

Union leader Keir Starmer He himself nominated eight personalities, including former Foreign Secretary and former deputy party leader Margaret Beckett, former Culture Secretary Dame Margaret Hodge and John Cryer, who until recently served as party leader.

Former Defence Secretary Kevan Jones, former Shadow Minister for Music and Tourism Barbara Keeley, former Auditor General in the Whip’s Office John Spellar and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Damn Rosie Winterton have also made it onto the Labour list.

The Liberal Democrats had a candidate of their own, Caroline Pidgeon, who was most recently party leader in the London Assembly, while the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) nominated former party leader Thomas Elliott.

Former President of the National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales Minette Batters and former President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Dr Hilary Cass will also be offered a seat in the House of Lords.
