Lightsabers are undoubtedly one of the most famous and exciting elements of war of stars Universe; so it’s no surprise that there are different types of lightsabers, as seen in variants like the double-bladed and crossguard lightsaber.

In the latest episode, Sol (Lee Jung-jae), who lands on a remote island to investigate a mysterious threat, sends out a distress signal in the hopes that either Mog (Harry Trevaldwyn) or Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh will come to his aid. Rwoh quickly organizes a team to rescue him, but they are shocked to find Sol’s entire crew wiped out by lightsaber attacks. She then wields her light whip to sever the Umbramoth, marking the live-action debut of one of the most highly anticipated lightsabers.

The history of light whips in Star Wars explained

Although we have seen many versions of lightsabers in war of stars Canon, nothing similar to the lightsaber whip has appeared, which makes us wonder if it really works in practice. The lightsaber whip was originally introduced in Marvel’s war of stars Comic book issue 95 (by Mary Jo Duffy and Cynthia Martin) from 1985, worn by Lumiya, the Dark Lady of the Sith, trained in the arts of the Sith by Darth Vader.

After Luke Skywalker’s victory over Darth Vader, he is defeated by Lumiya in a duel on Kinooine, which inspires Luke to build a lightsaber with a sharp blade. This brings us to the mechanics of the Lightwhip, which, unlike traditional lightsabers (which are powered by a single kyber crystal), is powered by a series of small kyber crystals, making the blade longer lasting and more flexible.

Star Wars: How lightsabers are made, explained

Here’s a refresher on lightsaber manufacturing in the Star Wars franchise.

Light whips are much harder to master than regular lightsabers, making them superior in offensive combat as they are highly unpredictable. However, they are inferior in defense, which is why they are more common among Sith than Jedi, as the former want bloodshed while the latter prefer peace.

Lumiya is not the only one who has used light whips in war of stars; the Sith Lord Githany, who posed as an apprentice of Darth Bane, also carried one in addition to the standard weapon, although she was nowhere near as skilled as Lumiya. In Steven Barnes’ 2004 novel The Cestus Illusionwe also see two other Force users who use light whips: Silri, a Nightsister, and Kit Fisto, who receives a specially made light whip from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Lightwhip has caused a lot of excitement among war of stars Fans, as they have never seen it in live action before, and its only appearance, aside from Marvel’s war of stars And The Cestus IllusionWas in The High Republic Novels. In addition, there is even speculation that Qimir’s scar, which was The AcolyteEpisode six, could have been caused by Rwoh, as normal sabers don’t usually leave curved wounds. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see how Rwoh fits into the mystery of Qimir’s past as a Jedi and his fall to the dark side.
