MISD expresses its condolences on the passing of Mr. Ken Marks

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – MISD sent its condolences on the passing of Mr. Ken Marks, a man who left a lasting mark on the Midland community.

According to a Facebook post by Brent D. McCullough of the Midland Independent School District, “MISD is saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Ken Marks” and is “grateful to Mr. Marks for his contributions” to the school district.

MISD stated that Mr. Ken Marks was a member and President of the MISD School Board from 1988 to 1992, served on the Region 18 Board of Directors for 28 years, and played a major role in the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).

According to the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Hall of Champions website, Ken Marks founded the first FCA huddle in 1983 – right in the Permian Basin – and served the region for decades as a huddle sponsor at Midland Lee High School.

The FCA also said that when Lee High School did not have a regional human resources director to rely on, Marks served as a huddle sponsor along with his wife, Mary Lee, for more than 30 years.

The FCA and people who knew Marks stated that he was a dedicated member of the community and had a “spiritual commitment to the coaches.” The FCA stated that “many athletes of the past three decades or more can attribute the beginning of their relationship with Christ to Marks.”

Several local residents and MISD staff who knew Marks expressed their condolences on social media, sharing that Mr. Ken Marks left a lasting impression and was a “great man” with a “servant’s heart.”
