A death shocks the fictional high school in Elite, Netflix’s longest-running Spanish-language scripted series, whose eighth and final season premieres on July 26.

The teen drama has been running since 2018 and revolves around the relationships between three working-class students enrolled at the elite school through a scholarship program and their wealthy classmates.

In season 8, the arrival of siblings Emilia and Héctor Krawietz, leaders of the Las Encinas alumni association, shakes the foundations of the school. Influential, powerful, corrupt and corrupting, the Krawietz spread chaos wherever they go and destroy the lives of those who fall victim to them. Only Omar can stand up to them and is willing to do anything to bring them down, because ultimately they represent everything that has always been wrong in Las Encinas.

The producers of season 8 were Carlos Montero and Jaime Vaca. The cast includes Omar Ayuso, André Lamoglia, Valentina Zenere, Mirela Balić, Gleb Abrosimov, Fernando Líndez, Nadia Al Saidi, Ander Puig, Carmen Arrufat, Mina el Hammani, Iván Mendes and Maribel Verdú, as well as newcomers Ane Rot, Nuno Gallego, Alexandra Pino and Mario Ermito.

Montero confirmed in October 2023 that season 8 would be the last. “We left off on a high,” Montero said. “Jaime (Vaca, co-showrunner for season 7), Netflix and I thought it was time to end it. I say that with great regret because it was several incredible years in which I met wonderful actors, we worked with all the directors we wanted to work with and we had the luxury of having Maribel in these last two seasons. Élite has changed everyone’s lives, there are actors who started with us and it was their springboard to now be world stars, that’s what happens to this cast and it’s a pride to have contributed to that and to know that they’ve seen us all over the world and liked it.”
