Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” is the biggest song of 2024 so far – Music News

As the official charts can confirm, Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” remains the officially most successful single of 2024 so far, and we are now reaching the halfway point of the year.

“Stick Season” was unchallenged at the top of the official singles charts for seven weeks in a row at the beginning of 2024 – and is still the longest-running number 1 single of the year.

The first UK chart-topper from Vermont singer-songwriter Noah, taken from his third studio album of the same name. The title of the song refers to the transition period between autumn and winter in Vermont.

According to the Official Charts Company, so far in 2024, Stick Season has achieved 1.37 million chart units, including 160 million combined audio and video streams. The song was originally released in 2022 and has currently achieved a total of 1.9 million chart units and 218 million streams in the UK.

At number two is Teddy Swims’ soulful “Lose Control”, which is also the most digitally downloaded single of 2024 so far (51,300 downloads), while Benson Boone’s earlier number one breakthrough “Beautiful Things” lands at number three.

One newcomer likely to continue climbing throughout the year is Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso (4), which spent five weeks at No. 1 before being displaced by Sabrina’s follow-up Please Please Please. The track has already garnered 763,000 combined chart units since its April release, including 85.7 million streams.

Rounding out the top five is Hozier’s first UK number one single, “Too Sweet”, which topped the Official Singles Chart for two weeks.

One of the dominant themes of 2024 so far has been a well-deserved renaissance of country music in the UK, and so there are plenty of country tracks fuelling the biggest songs of 2024 so far. Beyoncé’s chart-topping TEXAS HOLD ‘EM leads the top 10 (6), while breakthrough hits Austin by Dasha (13) and Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy) (14) secure a place in the top 20.

Further down there are more country-inspired performances by Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves with I Remember Everything (28) and Post Malone & Morgan Wallen with I Had Some Help (36).

Ariana Grande lands twice in the Top 40 with two of the biggest hits from “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”: the strutting handbag outfit “Yes, and?” (16) and the Robyn-esque “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” (19).

It also includes two tracks from Dua Lipa’s successful third album “Radical Optimism”: the hypnotic “Houdini” (22) and “Training Season” (31), both of which were top 10 hits in the official singles charts.

Other 2024 single releases that have made it onto the list since the beginning of the year include “I Like the Way You Kiss Me” (15) by Artemas, “Fortnight ft. Post Malone” (17) by Taylor Swift, “Scared To Start” (18) by Michael Marcagi and “Alibi” (21), a Coolio sampling by Ella Henderson & Rudimental.

Rounding out the top 40 are “Million Dollar Baby” (30) by Tommy Richman, “Belong Together” (32) by Mark Ambor and “Whatever” (37) by Kygo and Ava Max, which samples Shakira’s 2001 classic “Whenever, Wherever”.
