Bahrain Turf Club announces new floodlights and expansion of Turf Series

The Bahrain Turf Club announced on Thursday an expansion of the Bahrain Turf Series and the installation of floodlights ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Launched in 2021, the Bahrain Turf Series now features 12 races with a total prize pool of $1 million, with an additional $80,000 available as a bonus. The program begins on December 20 and runs until March 7. Two additional handicaps worth $100,000 each will be contested at the season finale, whose main event is the King’s Cup.

The extension of the Bahrain Turf Series means that all the key races of the second half of the season will now take place within the dates of the international programme. This makes it easier for the horses to follow the path of last season’s shooting star Isle Of Jura (GB) (New Approach {Ire}), who rose from the Bahrain Turf Series handicaps to pattern racing when he won the Crown Prince’s Cup and the King’s Cup, both of which hold Listed status.

His Highness Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club, said: “I am delighted to announce both an expansion of the Bahrain Turf Series and the introduction of floodlit racing, a bold initiative that will take the spectacle of racing in Bahrain to new levels and continue to help our season thrive.

“For the first time, our most prestigious races, including the Crown Prince’s Cup and the King’s Cup, will all fall within the Bahrain Turf Series calendar. This move, together with the new floodlights, adds more flexibility to the racing program and is expected to make racing in Bahrain an even more attractive and exciting proposition for international visitors.”

The Kingdom’s most valuable race, the $1 million G2 Bahrain International Trophy, will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club. Registration closes at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 2.
