Harley Benton has already launched the most affordable Strat copies of the year – now the company seems to be doing the same for single cuts with the revised SC-Custom III range
July 4, 2024
Having already launched what we believe to be the best-priced electric guitars of 2024 with the Strat-style ST Modern line, Harley Benton is now turning its attention to penny-saving Les Paul copies starting at $326.
The SC-Custom III series is an update to the hugely popular SC-Custom II line and is available in four variants, each offering different looks, feel and specifications.
All have bodies and necks made of meranti (Philippine mahogany) and fingerboards made of roasted jatoba. At the same time, 22 medium-sized jumbo frets made of stainless steel – a nice premium extra that you don’t usually see in this price range – promise “a smooth and comfortable playing experience”.
Otherwise, the data sheet will be mixed up depending on which model you choose.

The SC-Custom III with standard flamed maple veneer top as well as the plain Active and P90 versions all feature a fixed Les Paul-style WSC bridge and tailpiece, along with an ABS saddle, Grover tuning pegs and a 24.72-inch scale length.
The SC-Custom III FR, meanwhile, features a Floyd Rose 1000 tremolo. It’s always a rare treat to see a Floyd on an LP-style body (especially one that’s so affordable). Neal Schon will be happy.

While the Active and P90 (you guessed it) models feature Harley Benton’s version of active humbuckers and P-90s, respectively, the other two models are powered by Tesla Alnico-V pickups.

They are designed to “imitate the classic humbuckers of the past, with enough bite and snap for the modern era.”

Harley Benton has been generous with its regular SC-Custom III color options: Vintage Black Satin (also available for left-handed use), Lemon Flame, Ocean Flame, Purple Burst, Desert Burst, Satin Paradise and Gold Top are all available.
The other models are available in monochrome finishes. The P90 is available in glossy black, the FR in vintage black, while the Active is available in both vintage black and white.
“The SC Custom III models are designed for players who demand a rock-solid instrument that can be used for everything from smooth grooves to unleashing fiery riffs,” says Harley Benton.

The company has also paid attention to bassists, recently releasing a new line of four- and five-string Fender-inspired bass guitars, with prices starting at $207.
