Veteran actress Smriti Biswas dies, Hansal Mehta condoles | Bollywood News

Veteran actress Smriti Biswas died on July 3 at the age of 100. The actress, best known for her work in Bengali, Hindi and Marathi films, breathed her last at her house in Nashik due to an age-related ailment.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta confirmed the news on his Instagram account and expressed his condolences over her death. He shared a series of photos of the actress and thanked her for enriching people’s lives.

He wrote, “Go in peace and to a happier place dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives.”

Social media is also flooded with condolences for Smriti Biswas, with many sharing pictures of the actress from her various films. She has been seen in films like Nek Dil, Aparajita, Hamsafar, Hamdard, Chitgaon and Baap Re Baap, among others.

Smriti Biswas, who began her career as a child actress, has appeared in several films directed by Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra and Raj Kapoor, among others. In her 30-year-long career, Biswas has shared the screen with renowned actors such as Dev Annad, Kishore Kumar and Balraj Sahni.

Biswas made her acting debut in the 1930 Bengali film Sandhya and last appeared in the 1960 film Model Girl. The actress left show business after marrying filmmaker SD Narang. After his death in 1986, the actress moved to Nashik. The actress is survived by her sons Satyajeet and Rajeev.
