Faith in Action offers dementia training – Pine and Lakes Echo Journal

HACKENSACK – Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act and talk about dementia.

The Dementia Friends initiative was launched by the Alzheimer’s Society of the UK and is currently running in Minnesota and across the US. Understanding what dementia is and how it affects families can make a big difference to those affected by dementia.

Become a friend to those living with dementia by attending a one-hour information session at the Hub in Hackensack on Monday, June 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to learn more about this worldwide movement, living with dementia, and the simple things you can do to support a person with the disease at home, in your business, or in your community.

The one-hour session is a discussion led by a Dementia Friends Champion. It is not a training session. Participants will learn what dementia is, what it is like to live with the condition and some tips for communicating with people with dementia. All participants will be asked to translate their new understanding of dementia into a practical action that can help someone in their community.

For anyone who would like to do more, there will be a Dementia Friends Champion Training following the information session from 3pm to 4pm.

Dementia Friends meetings are sponsored by the Central Minnesota Council on Aging and Faith in Action for Cass County. For more information about Dementia Friends or to register for the event, call Faith in Action for Cass County at 218-675-5435 or visit www.faithinactioncass.com.
