Star voice actress Tara Strong fired after Israel-Hamas posts

The upcoming animated series Boxtown has confirmed that it has fired star voice actress Tara Strong over her recent posts and comments about Israel and Palestine.

Boxtown and Bandit Mill Animation said in a statement Tuesday evening that Strong, whose voice became famous on Teen Titans, The Rugrats, The Powerpuff GirlsAnd Ben10, was removed because “Tara has recently been trending online, including posts with controversial messages about the peoples of Palestine, who are currently affected by the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis.”

Last week, Boxtown had posted that the role of Bill the Orphan, the character Strong voices, would be recast, but did not provide any details. Strong Posted She said she learned the news online. “Fired because I’m Jewish,” she wrote. “Please delete my email address and pray for my family in Israel and Gaza.”

As the crisis began to unfold on October 7, Strong reportedly liked a tweet that equated all Muslims with Hamas and ISIS, while in another post she allegedly wrote“It was smart of them to start with a country that people love to hate.” Later, claims she “liked it when I saw that ISIS=HAMAS,” but “I didn’t read the whole tweet, which is TERRIBLE, and liked it IMMEDIATELY when I realized it.” She added, “I love everyone… except terrorists. The internet is SO quick to categorize people and make judgments. I’m still here to help everyone, and I mean that.”

The statement reads: Boxtown seemed unconvinced. “We believe our public platform gives us a duty of care when it comes to hateful messages and misinformation online. This includes our cast and crew. This was not a difficult decision.”

Further information on the new appointment will be announced in the coming weeks, it said.

“Our condolences go out to the Palestinian and Israeli children and families affected by the ongoing conflict. People should be able to live freely without being constantly threatened by abuse and terror. We hope for the best,” the program’s statement continued.
