MORRIS HEIGHTS, Bronx (PIX11) – A man stabbed to death in the Bronx on Tuesday was the father of a 2-year-old girl who will be remembered for his “kind heart” and “generous soul,” a GoFundMe page said.

According to the NYPD, 29-year-old Ronald Gomez-Mesa was fatally stabbed at the corner of West Tremont Avenue and Phelan Place in Morris Heights around 4:30 p.m. The stabbing occurred after a minor fender bender that led to a fight that quickly escalated.

A woman involved in the rear-end collision called her boyfriend to the scene. Witnesses reported that the woman’s boyfriend went on a rampage after a man on a scooter threw something at him. The boyfriend began hitting passers-by who were filming the incident on their mobile phones.

Gomez-Mesa sat and watched as the friend approached him. Surveillance video showed Gomez-Mesa standing up and hitting the friend.

Gomez-Mesa was later stabbed in the chest, police said. He was taken to the hospital but could not be saved.

No arrests were made in connection with the incident.

A memorial candle was placed in honor of Gomez-Mesa, a resident of Morris Heights.

Gomez-Mesa was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States in 2010 to join his family, according to the GoFundMe campaign set up to help his family with funeral expenses and medical bills.

Gomez-Mesa was a “devoted father to his two-year-old daughter who will greatly miss her father’s guidance and love,” the GoFundMe campaign said.

A cousin of Gomez-Mesa told PIX11 News that he was loved by everyone and his family is devastated by his death. The cousin said Gomez-Mesa always tried to help people.

“Throughout his life, Ronald was known for his kind heart, warm smile and generous soul. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched,” the GoFundMe campaign said.
