“La Maison” on Apple TV+ is a must-see for Succession fans

If you, like me, were a fan of the French spy series The office — which, as we mentioned, is getting an American remake later this year — then here’s another new drama to put on your watchlist: The housea French-language drama about a legendary fashion house, coming to Apple TV+ in September.

Featuring Lambert Wilson as the star designer, whose family runs a legendary haute couture fashion house, the 10-part series is a production of TOA – The Originals of America, in collaboration with the multi-award-winning studio TOP – The Originals Productions. This is the same studio behind The officewhich will forever remain, in my opinion, the best spy drama of all time, so I’m definitely ready to sink my teeth into this latest Apple TV+ drama, which comes out September 20th.

In addition, I will also go out on a limb and say that The house could also be the TV drama that Succession-big hole in my heart.

HBO’s hit drama about the bitter succession battle of a ruthless American media conglomerate ended just over a year ago, but it could easily have continued for at least another season. The brotherly squabbles, the crackling dialogue, the gripping storytelling – it all made for quite a compelling viewing experience, and a Media Twitter favorite in particular.

I’m not sure what it is about wealth porn, but time and time again the foibles of the one percent make for clearly compelling television. In the new Apple TV+, high risk meets high fashion, when a viral video featuring Wilson’s character leaves his family’s fashion house hanging by a thread. Apple continues, “Still in his shadow, Vincent’s former muse teams up with visionary next-generation designer Paloma Castel (Zita Hanrot) to save, evolve and renew the century-old Maison LEDU.

“Diane Rovel (Carole Bouquet), the unscrupulous CEO of the powerful luxury group Rovel, takes advantage of Vincent’s death and launches an offensive to conquer what she sees as her most important prize: Maison LEDU. She is allowed to do anything to achieve her goal, because it is about more than just acquiring another brand – it is about revenge.”

French elegance, aspirational wealth, luxurious Parisian decor – it really feels like the kind of show that was destined for Apple’s niche yet stalwart streamer. The house is also part of a growing number of international Apple TV+ releases that include everything from Acapulco To Tehran and the upcoming Mexican police drama Women in Blue.
