Praised series canceled after 2 seasons on Prime Video

The Prime Video series Outer area rides off into the sunset. It was announced that the series was canceled after two seasons and there are no plans for a third season.




According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon officially cancelled Outer area. The reveal of the show’s future comes less than two months after all episodes of season 2 were released simultaneously on May 16. The series also saw a surge in acclaim with season 2, boasting a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92% – a jump from 79% in season 1. Its audience score also rose from 65% to 81%.

Additionally, Outer area was not particularly successful in terms of viewership, although it did not come close to Amazon’s more popular offerings, such as Stand out And Gripper. Season 2 was on Nielsen’s top 10 list of original streaming series for at least three weeks, based on the most recent viewership numbers through June 2. The first season was on the top 10 list for five weeks.



Josh Brolin led the cast of Outer Range

Outer area was created by Brian Watkins. In the series, Josh Brolin played a rancher whose family is at odds with another family when a mysterious black hole suddenly appears on their pasture. The series, which mixes elements from the science fiction and western genres, also starred Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tom Pelphrey and Lewis Pullman.
