Since Joey Chestnut is not competing in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest this year, he can now get the mustard yellow belt.

Chestnut, who was dropped from this year’s event after signing a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, is the defending champion of the men’s competition and has won the last eight contests. Matt Stonie won the title in 2015, the last time Chestnut did not take home the belt. Chestnut is a 16-time champion overall.

With Chestnut out, Geoffrey Esper is the current betting favorite, followed by James Webb. Esper was second in this event in 2023 and ate 49 hot dogs. That’s a big number, but he was still 13 hot dogs behind Chestnut.
