Participants from near and far will soon gather in downtown New Baltimore for the annual Anchor Bay Triathlon.

Now in its 39th year, the race includes a half-mile swim in Lake St. Clair, a 11-mile bike ride and a 5-mile run to the finish line. This year’s event is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on July 13 at Walter and Mary Burke Park. The registration deadline has been extended to July 5.

Participants compete individually or in relay teams. They are divided according to age. The swim consists of four wave starts.

Registration is $90 for an individual or $130 for a relay team. Places can be picked up starting at 5:30 a.m. at the indoor pavilion in Walter and Mary Burke Park.

Timing and results will be provided by Newton Timing & Race Services using ChronoTrack systems. Results will be posted continuously for review during the event. Full results will be posted online after the event.

Green Street will be closed while cyclists pass through. Volunteers will begin closing the streets at 5 a.m. The streets will reopen around 11 a.m. No parking will be allowed on Washington Street between Front and Main Streets between 2 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The event, organized by the New Baltimore Parks and Recreation Department, attracts both competitive athletes and new racers. Participants come from communities across Michigan, other states and Canada to compete in the event. About 1,000 participants are expected.
