A customer has sharply criticized the retailer for a new shopping fee.

Shoppers said they are considering suspending their memberships.

“This is… extreme,” tweeted one buyer.

“$25 would be reasonable, but $50? Who do they think they are, Nike? We’re talking about food, not Air Jordans.”

The retailer responded to the tweet by saying that the customer feedback was “worth it.”

“Plus members can still shop early and receive free curbside pickup,” the retailer responded.

“This means you can avoid the crowds and shop conveniently before regular club hours. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for choosing Sam’s Club.”

Consumers said membership was no longer worth the price.

“A $50 minimum order on top of the annual fee is outrageous,” commented one X user formerly of Twitter. “I probably won’t renew as it’s just not worth the cost.”

“The whole point of paying the extra fees for Plus was to get free shipping,” echoed another.

“Now we have to spend even more to get the benefits? Why?”

“You can’t checkout,” Sam’s Club members warn, as shoppers must pay extra to shop early under store rules

JUST FOR MEMBERS

Club members with a $50 membership receive free shipping only on items marked “Free Shipping.”

However, to enjoy free delivery on most items, club members are now advised to upgrade to a Plus membership.

Plus members with an active membership receive free shipping on eligible items with no minimum purchase, according to the Sam’s Club website.

A Plus membership costs $110 per year, compared to $50 per year for Club membership.

However, to enjoy free shipping on most items, club members are encouraged to upgrade to a Plus membership (members only pay pro-rata fees).

Additional perks include early bird discounts, pharmacy discounts and free curbside pickup.

SAY SOMETHING?

Consumers are also fed up with a little-known Sam’s Club policy that automatically charges the last card used to pay.

Many consumers do not remember signing up for the new feature, but receive automatic payments on a secondary card.

Shoppers said the retailer should first notify consumers that they have opted into the auto-debit feature.

There is an entire page on the website dedicated to the new policy, which includes information on how to enable and disable the feature.

Meanwhile, a Costco customer was surprised at how strict the retailer’s card membership policies were.

And shoppers are frustrated with Walmart’s new strict return policy.
