52-year-old man allegedly beat roommate to death in argument over Taco Bell food

ROSEVILLE, Michigan (WKRC) – A 52-year-old man allegedly beat his roommate to death after an argument over a meal at Taco Bell.

Accordingly PEOPLE, Citing the Macomb County District Attorney’s Office, 54-year-old Mark Newsome was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly beating 72-year-old Dale Mitchell to death. WJBK reported that an argument over a meal at Taco Bell allegedly escalated into a physical altercation.

Per PEOPLEOn Tuesday, Newsome was transferred to Macomb County District Court by Roseville District Court Judge Joseph Boedeker and is being held without bail. According to the release, both Newsome and Mitchell were staying at a boarding house in Roseville, Michigan, at the time of the incident.

Prosecutors allege that Newsome struck the 72-year-old several times on the head, which allegedly led to his death. PEOPLE.

Two other residents of the home spoke to WJBK about the incident in February.

“Oh God, it really scared the hell out of me,” Bob McQuade told WJBK.

“There was blood everywhere up there,” added Larry Melton.

The roommates told WJBK that they were sleeping when the alleged fight occurred.

“The thought that a dispute over food could escalate into murder is unimaginable,” McQuade told the outlet.

“‘Why are you doing this?'” Melton recalled telling WJBK. “‘Why are you doing this? Leave me alone. Stop, please stop.’ That’s what I heard.”

Speaking to the outlet, McQuade said he “trusted Mark as a friend,” adding that he “could never believe he would have done something like that.”

Newsome is scheduled to go on trial on July 2, according to PEOPLE.
