Big Sean calls Eminem’s song “Tobey” a full-circle moment

Big Sean has described his collaboration with Eminem as a full-circle moment, and it’s hard not to feel the love for Detroit.

The 36-year-old star teams up with Babytron (24), also from Motor City, for the hip-hop icon’s new single “Tobey.” In an emotional post, Sean remembers how Eminem’s The slim Shady LP was the first CD he ever bought.

“I will not hold you, slim Shady LP was the first CD I bought with my own money at Costco. Me n Em have about 4 songs on it now (“DVE”, “No Favors”, “Detroit 2 cypher”), but on the Death of Slim Shady the circle is closed.

“When I thought this, I didn’t know I’d be one of the next out of town… let alone even know Em. A reminder to myself of how unrealistic this really is,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Speaking of superheroes, the new song from the upcoming album TThe Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)) is a reference to Tobey Maguire and his iconic role in the 2002 film Spider-ManLike a web-swinging pro, Eminem incorporates references to the superhero blockbuster into his song lyrics.

“Tobey Maguire got bitten by a spider, me? Must have been bitten by a goat/ When I was a kid I always dreamed of growing up/ I hope that I inspire hope/ So you can get what you want most,” raps 51-year-old Eminem.

The single’s artwork even parodies the viral meme of three Spider-Men pointing at each other, featuring animated versions of Eminem, Big Sean and Babytron in the iconic pose.

The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace) will be released on July 12. The latest track follows the first single, “Houdini,” which magically appeared last month and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Meanwhile, rumors are growing that Eminem will headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2025.
