Will Reeve takes on a cameo role in the “Superman” film

James Gunn Superman added Will Reeve, son of the late Superman Star Christopher Reeve in a cameo role, according to local reporting from Cleveland, where production is currently underway.

While representatives from Warner Bros and DC could not be reached for comment, the younger Reeve will reportedly play a television reporter, which is fitting given his real-life work as a correspondent for ABC News.

Reeves’ father Christopher is inextricably linked to the Superman franchise that became the definitive portrayal of the iconic superhero for a generation. His relationship with the franchise began in 1978, when he played the title character in Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movieand he wore the cape between 1980 and 1987 in three sequels: Superman II, Superman IIIAnd Superman IV – The World on the Brink.

The story of the older Reeve is the focus Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Storya documentary directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui that premiered to critical acclaim at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select U.S. theaters on September 21 through DC Studios and Fathom Events, with a repeat screening on Christopher Reeve’s birthday, September 25. The documentary traces Reeve’s astonishing rise from unknown actor to legendary movie star, and shows how his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the standard for the superhero film universes that dominate today’s cinema. It also examines the near-fatal horseback riding accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down in 1995, as well as his later work as a passionate advocate for disability rights and care.

The documentary is also scheduled to be released in international cinemas, but the date has not yet been announced.

The first title in a revamped DC series under the direction of studio bosses Gunn and Peter Safran, Superman follows the eponymous superhero as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world where kindness is considered old-fashioned.

David Corenswet takes on the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult plays the villain Lex Luthor. Also starring in the highly anticipated Warner Bros film are, as previously announced, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Wendell Pierce and Beck Bennett, to name a few.

Gunn is directing from his own screenplay based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Safran is producing the film, which is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
