Stabbing in the Bronx: 29-year-old passerby stabbed to death in a traffic dispute in Morris Heights

MORRIS HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) – A man died on Tuesday in the Bronx after being stabbed in the chest near a daycare center. According to police, the incident occurred during a traffic dispute.

The incident began around 4:30 p.m. at the corner of West Tremont Avenue and Phelan Place in Morris Heights, where two drivers caused a minor accident that should have been easily resolved but instead ended in a bloodbath.

According to police, one of the drivers called her boyfriend to the scene of the accident. Witnesses told Eyewitness News reporter Lucy Yang that the boyfriend started punching the wrong group of men and eventually stabbed a passerby in the chest.

The passerby collapsed in front of a nearby daycare center.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Ronald Gomez-Mesa, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he later died.

Candles are now being placed in his memory.

The police have been out all night collecting evidence and finding the killer, but no arrests have been made so far.

The investigation is ongoing.
