Nashville father Dahal Umesh kicked to death by Bishal Rai at a concert outside Top Golf

A Nashville father of two was beaten to death outside a top golf club as he tried to break up a fight that broke out during a concert on Saturday night.

Dahal Umesh, along with other members of Nashville’s Nepali community, were attending the music event in the basement of Top Golf – a nationwide chain of golf courses – when the violent dispute broke out inside, Metropolitan Nashville Police said.

The concert, hosted by the Nashville Nepalese Association, took place at The Cowan, a 635-person capacity live performance venue in the basement of Top Golf, and featured Nepalese rock band Mantra, according to the organization’s Facebook page.

The argument eventually led people outside to the parking lot, where the 41-year-old allegedly intervened as a peacemaker.

“Umesh was reportedly attempting to break up the argument when he was struck, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete,” the MNPD said Tuesday.

As he lay on the ground, Umesh was kicked in the head.

He died on Tuesday morning from severe head injuries.

The Homicide Squad, which took over the investigation on Monday due to Umesh’s “medical condition”, identified the man they believe carried out the fatal kick and arrested him on Monday evening.

Bishal Rai, 26, was arrested at his home in Antioch, about 14 miles southeast of Top Golf.

He was originally charged with grievous bodily harm, but after Umesh’s death the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.

“A judicial commissioner ordered Rai to be held without bail pending a hearing,” the MNPD said.

Rai is being held at the Nashville Downtown Detention Center and cannot be released: “ICE – Transferred to ICE, bail available,” reads jail records viewed by The Post.

He was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation last year, but the case was ultimately dropped, according to court records.

Rai is expected to appear in court on Wednesday morning.

Following Rai’s arrest, investigators are still searching for other concertgoers who may be responsible for Umesh’s death.

“The investigation into the possible involvement of other individuals in the fatal attack on Umesh is ongoing,” the MNPD said.
