Rotary Club of Redmond launches “Home Team” to offer free basic home maintenance to seniors

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The Rotary Club of Redmond is proud to announce the launch of the Rotary Home Team, a new initiative aimed at providing free basic home maintenance services to seniors in the Redmond community.

The Rotary Home Team recognizes the challenges many seniors face in managing home repairs. The team’s goal is to fill an important gap and offer assistance with common maintenance issues.

Satisfy a critical need

For many seniors, it has become increasingly difficult to make routine home repairs. Family members may not always be available to help, and the cost of hiring professional services can be prohibitive. The Rotary Home Team helps with tasks such as:

• Replacing hard-to-reach light bulbs
• Changing batteries for smoke detectors
• Repairing leaky faucets or drains
• Adjusting handles or drawer pulls
• Reset tripped circuit breakers

How it works

Seniors can contact the Redmond Senior Center to schedule a Rotary Home Team visit, which typically occurs on the last Saturday of every other month. On these scheduled work days, qualified Rotarian volunteers visit seniors’ homes to make needed repairs. The volunteers are easy to spot and bring all the necessary tools. Before beginning work, they discuss the needed repairs with the homeowner and have them sign a simple liability waiver.

Positive impact

Once repairs are complete, seniors can look forward to increased safety and comfort in their homes, with working lights, smooth-running doors, and drip-free faucets. In addition, Rotary volunteers provide a list of other resources available in the Redmond area to help seniors feel supported and connected in their community.
