CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) – An inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his cellmate Tuesday, state police said.

Shaquille Gibson, 30, of York, is charged with the premeditated murder of fellow inmate Bernard Grover, who goes by the alias “Kevin Beattie,” 57, according to a state police news release.

According to police, Grover appeared to have suffered multiple injuries and his death was investigated as a homicide. It was determined that the two were cellmates during the murder, police said.

The official cause and manner of Grover’s death are pending, with an autopsy scheduled to be performed at a later date, state police said.

Gibson is currently still in SCI Camp Hill, but will be transferred to another prison in coordination with the Department of Corrections (DOC), the press release said.

According to the Pennsylvania DOC, the warden of SCI Camp Hill reported that Beattie was found unconscious in his cell early Tuesday. Prison staff immediately responded and began life-saving measures until Lower Allen EMS arrived and advanced life support was continued.

Beattie was pronounced dead at 8:16 a.m.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Beattie was serving a 22-25 year sentence for burglary and had been incarcerated at SCI Camp Hill since February 2023.
