Ann Wilson, lead singer of Heart, cancels tour after cancer diagnosis

Ann Wilson, the 74-year-old lead singer of classic rock band Heart, has announced that the band is postponing its North American tour after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Wilson, whose powerful vocals can be heard on the band’s hits such as “These Dreams,” said she is undergoing chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer.

“I had surgery to remove something that turned out to be cancerous,” she said. “The surgery was successful and I feel great, but my doctors are now advising me to have preventative chemotherapy and I’ve decided to do that.”

Wilson said all remaining dates of the band’s Royal Flush Tour have been postponed.

“To those who bought tickets, I really wish we could do these concerts. Please know that I fully intend to be back on stage in 2025. My team is sorting out those details and we will let you know the plan as soon as possible,” she said. “This is just a break. I have a lot more singing to do.”

“With all due respect, this is the last public statement I wish to make on this matter,” she said.

The band, which also includes Wilson’s sister Nancy Wilson (70), had cancelled the European part of their tour in May. At the time, it was said that Ann had undergone a “time-critical but routine medical procedure” that required a “minimum recovery time” of six weeks.

Heart was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1967 and was originally called The Army, but changed its name in 1973. The band had a number of hits, including “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You,” “Alone,” and “Barracuda.” They were nominated for four Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
