Childish Gambino releases new song “Lithonia” and confirms album release date

Donald Glover has just released a new single from his “last” album as Childish Gambino.

On Tuesday, July 2, the rapper and actor went in a completely different direction with his latest song, “Lithonia.” The pop-rock track – produced by Glover, Max Martin, Ludwig Göransson and Michael Uzowuru – finds him singing over high-pitched synths, classic guitar riffs and powerful piano chords. The song is named after Lithonia, Georgia, the setting of his FX series “Atlanta.” The song officially debuted in a new trailer for his upcoming film Bando Stone and the New World and will appear on the official soundtrack.

Glover officially released the trailer during the 2024 BET Awards after it premiered in theaters last weekend. Shortly before the trailer was shown, Glover presented Killer Mike with the award for “Album of the year.” In the moments before Mike’s victory, Glover mentioned Will Smith while joking about his lack of awards from BET and the Recording Academy. Bad Boys The actor seemed to enjoy Glover’s jokes. He posted a video of yourself laughing during Glover’s rant backstage after he had performed his new song “You can do it” with the Sunday Service Choir And Kirk Franklin.

“I have more Grammys than *Will Smith*, which doesn’t make sense. But I have as many BET Awards as Sam Smith,” Glover said. “Does that make sense to you? Me and Sam Smith are neck and neck at the Black Entertainment Television (Awards)… If I have to do that, well, I don’t know, Baby boy or something, just let me know. I’m going to let Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock and shave my head. I’m going to do that!”

The soundtrack for Bando Stone and the New World is allegedly Glover’s last album as Childish Gambino. Look for the album and his next film, out July 19. Listen to “Lithonia” below.
