Emma Roberts says she has “lost more jobs than she has gained” because of her family

Emma Roberts talks about the influence she believes her famous family has had on her acting career.

When speaking with Flaunt Magazine, the actress, 33, joked about whether she would be interested in a 2022 New York Magazine Cover story about Hollywood’s “Nepo babies,” in which she was not on the list even though her aunt is Julia Roberts and her father is actor Eric Roberts.

“It was a cheap trick to put all the celebrity kids on the cover of a magazine about baby bodies,” she said of the larger discussion. “Perhaps the ‘Nepo Baby’ conversation would have been a more interesting article, written intelligently in Vanity Fair with nuances, but instead it was this kind of viral misanthropy.”

“I’ve lost more jobs than I’ve gained from being in the industry,” she added when asked if she thought her family ties had benefited her own career.

“People have opinions, and sometimes they may not be good opinions about people in the family,” Roberts said. “I never got a job because of it. I know I definitely lost a few jobs because of it.”

“I think it’s important to talk about it, otherwise people think everything was so great and straightforward and easy, but no, it’s not that at all,” she said about her openness about previous rejections in Table for two Podcast. “But of course it looks like that from the outside or to the naked eye.”
