An indoor playground is being built in the Village at Shirlington – for children and adults.

According to the permits, Scramble Parkour will open at 2900 S. Quincy Street, replacing The Energy Club gym, which closed last year due to declining membership.

Scramble’s two current locations – in Falls Church and Alexandria – offer “activities that develop children’s minds and bodies” in various spaces, according to the website. But Scramble Parkour won’t just focus on kids, owner Laurence Smallman told ARLnow.

“The biggest difference with Scramble Parkour is that it offers families with older children through teenagers the opportunity to challenge themselves in special activity areas away from the younger children,” said Smallman.

The 18,500-foot space will feature DC-inspired themes and special play areas for different age groups. For example, the Tidal Basin play area will be the sensory area for toddlers, while National Mall, Friendship Heights and other areas will be featured.

There will be an obstacle course for youth and adults in the Upper J Street area “that will test the fittest and strongest.”

Accompanying the game is a café area that offers flatbread pizzas, pizzas, quesadillas and more at Scramble’s current two locations.

Scramble’s current locations also offer a variety of specials, such as discounted tacos on Tuesdays and $2 off wine and beer on Wednesdays. They also have birthday party spaces, which are popular with preschool and elementary school children.

As of Tuesday, interior renovations were underway, but there seemed to be a lot of work to be done before completion. Drywall still needed to be installed in many areas, and playground equipment had not yet been installed, as could be seen on one of the building’s two floors.

Scramble expects to open in late summer or early fall, Smallman said.
