Frost and Bremmer kick off ‘Music in the Park’ series at Staples on July 7 – Brainerd Dispatch

STAPLES — The Music in the Park series at Staples begins Sunday, July 7, at 7 p.m. with the music of Chris Frost and Chris Bremmer. Opening the duo is pianist Geoffrey DeCamp, who takes the stage at 6:45 p.m.

This is the first concert in the summer series, which will run for five Sundays. Bring a lawn chair. The Staples Host Lions will once again be selling popcorn, soda and water.

“Expect a melting pot of 1970s music,” says Chris Frost, one half of the duo that performs regularly at Frosty’s Spirits & Social Club in Staples.

In fact, the two veteran musicians first met at Frosty’s. Chris Frost, who was playing solo there at the time, recalled the Friday night when Chris Bremmer came in and was ready to play a few tunes at the open mic portion. “We hit it off right away,” Frost said in a press release, adding that the two soon realized they shared the same love for the same music and had similar performing backgrounds.

“We lived separate lives parallel to each other,” Frost said, saying that he and “the other Chris” had both played in bands in the past, including Retro Cowboy for Frost, and also done solo work.

Frost, a native of New York Mills, plays keyboards and guitar, and Bremmer, now with Motley, plays lead and rhythm guitar and occasional dobro. Both sing, and their voices blend beautifully.

They have enjoyed their weekly gig at Staples at Frosty’s (owned by Colleen Frost, Chris’ twin sister) and are excited to perform at Northern Pacific Park for the first time. They hope to see many familiar faces, but also some new ones.

Be sure to arrive early and enjoy the music of 16-year-old Staples piano wizard Geoffrey DeCamp. DeCamp is an award-winning musician from Staples-Motley High School and plays everything from Billy Joel to ragtime and boogie woogie.

The Music in the Park concerts take place Sundays at 7 p.m. in Northern Pacific Park and run through August 4. For more information about the Music in the Park series, visit www.staplesmotleyarts.org.

Northern Pacific Park is located at 625 6th St. NE. At the intersection of Highways 10 and 210, go six blocks north on 6th St. NE. In the event of rain, concerts will be moved to Faith Lutheran Church in Staples.

The Music in the Park series is sponsored by the Staples Host Lions Club and 3M of Staples. The series is organized by the Staples Motley Area Arts Council with support from the City of Staples.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.

Hi, I’m the Brainerd Dispatch. I started working a few days before Christmas in 1881, and two years later it became a daily newspaper. I’ve gone through a lot of changes over the years, but what has never changed is my commitment to the community and local journalism. I have a whole team of dedicated people who work day and night to make sure I go out every morning, whether in print, e-edition, on an app or with additional information at www.brainerddispatch.com. News, weather, sports – videos, photos, podcasts and social media – all featuring central Minnesota stories about your neighbors, your lakes, your communities, your challenges and your opportunities. It’s all part of an effort to connect and inform people. And that wouldn’t be possible without support.
