The star of “Death in Paradise” says in the update to the spin-off: “The heart is broken”

Filming for the new spin-off of “Death in Paradise,” set in Australia, has officially wrapped.

The new series, titled “Return to Paradise,” stars former “Home and Away” actress Anna Samson in the lead role.

She plays Detective Inspector Mackenzie Clarke, who, after an incident, has to give up her job with the Metropolitan Police in London and return to her hometown.

On Instagram this week, Samson expressed her sadness about the end of filming and the separation from her co-stars.

“I got to spend the last three months with these three boys,” she wrote under a sweet photo of herself with her co-stars Aaron McGrath, Lloyd Griffith and Tai Hara.

“I love them more than I can say. We finished our show this week and it breaks my heart that they are no longer contractually obligated to spend time with me.”

Hara, who previously starred in Home and Away, quickly commented on the post, joking: “Nah, we can message a new contact?”

Return to Paradise follows Samson’s detective Mack. After she is accused of tampering with evidence at the Met, her career prospects are limited and she reluctantly returns to her Australian hometown of Dolphin Cove.

However, not everyone is happy about Mack’s return to Dolphin Cove after she dumped her ex-fiancé Glenn (played by Hara) and fled the town six years ago.

The official synopsis highlights Mack’s “unique ability to solve puzzles, no matter how difficult,” which comes in handy when she becomes aware of a complex case.

“She can’t rest until she finds out and the killer is in handcuffs,” the synopsis continues.

“It is this tenacity and work ethic that, over time, may help Mackenzie win over her new colleagues and the people of Dolphin Cove.”

Return to Paradise awaits a release date. Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradiseboth broadcast on BBC One and streamed on BBC iPlayer.
