LANSING, Mich. – Today, Governor Whitmer reaffirmed her commitment to fight for the students and teachers in Michigan’s public school system, making the largest investment in schools in our state’s history for the sixth consecutive year, including an average $400 raise for every student in the state.

“As a parent, I know how important it is to invest in our children and our educators – whether they are in Kalamazoo or all the way up in Marquette,” said Governor Whitmer“That’s why I made sure this budget invests directly in our schools and students, giving them the resources and support they need to ensure every child here in Michigan can receive a world-class education. I will work with everyone to improve learning outcomes so every student can succeed. Let’s do this together.”

The budget makes direct investments in Michigan’s students and provides $598 million in ongoing payments to school districts across the state. The payments represent a 4% per-pupil increase, for an average increase of $400 per student over fiscal year 2024. Overall, Governor Whitmer has increased per-pupil funding by 26% since taking office.

We will continue to advocate for students and open doors for the leaders of tomorrow.”

Through targeted and direct investments in Michigan’s students and schools, Governor Whitmer is ensuring that every child is set up for success and can “Make It in Michigan.” The FY 2025 budget reaffirms her commitment and builds on the historic investments she has made during her tenure.
