Folk trio Palmyra and roots singer Jobi Riccio as co-headliners at Club Passim

Emerging artists Palmyra and Jobi Riccio will share the stage together for the first time on July 29 at Club Passim. Palmyra, comprised of Virginia natives Teddy Chipouras, Mānoa Bell and Sasha Landon, explores the fusion of traditional folk string instruments, three-part harmonies and serious songwriting. Palmyra will also feature country roots musician Jobi Riccio, the recipient of the Newport Folk Festival’s 2023 John Prine Fellowship and the 2024 Luck Reunion’s Artist on the Rise. Tickets are available now at passim.org.

Often described as a distant cousin of the Avett Brothers and the Wood Brothers, Palmyra is a nod to the music of the Appalachian and Midwestern United States, with complex arrangements that create the illusion of a full ensemble of more than three people.

They have worked hard to establish themselves as a distinctive force across the Americana music landscape, with their forward momentum fueled by their craftsmanship and dedication to an intimate performance experience; at the heart of The Palmyra is the obvious love and appreciation the three musicians have for each other and their craft. The group has had the honor of playing at the historic Newport Folk Festival and Floydfest, where they were named the 2022 winner of the “On The Rise” competition.

Jobi Riccio was born and raised in Morrison, Colorado – a tourist town in the foothills outside of Denver that is home to the Red Rocks Amphitheater. She grew up surrounded by music, finding inspiration in artists from Sheryl Crow to Joni Mitchell. She has received recognition for her songwriting, including winning the 2019 NewSong Music Competition, the 2019 Lee Villiare Scholarship from her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, and being named a finalist in the 2018 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriters Showcase.

In 2023, Stereogum named her debut album Whiplash the number one country album of the year. Riccio’s Whiplash refuses to be forced into a specific mold, bringing in influences from a variety of genres while still leaving room for her love of all decades of country and Americana music.

Palmyra and Jobi Riccio perform at Club Passim on Monday, July 29th at 8pm. Tickets are $20 and available at www.passim.org. Club Passim is located at 47 Palmer St., Cambridge MA 02138.

About Passim

Passim’s mission is to provide truly exceptional and interactive live music experiences for both artists and audiences, to nurture artists at all stages of their careers, and to build a vibrant music community. Passim does this through its legendary lecture hall, music school, artist fellowships, and outreach programs. A nonprofit organization since 1994, Passim carries on the legacy of its predecessors – the historic Club 47 (1958-1968) and the for-profit Passim (1969-1994). We cultivate a diverse mix of musical traditions, with an emphasis on the relationship between artists and audiences, and teachers and students. Located in Harvard Square, Passim serves Cambridge and the wider region by showcasing local, national, and international artists. Our ultimate goal is to help the performing arts flourish, thereby enriching the lives of members of our community. For a full program, visit www.passim.org.
