Cavaliers receive brutal news on Darius Garland’s trade value

Since the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated from the playoffs in May, we’ve been hearing rumors that the team may trade Darius Garland in the offseason.

At this point, it doesn’t look like they’re going to move Garland, but that may not necessarily be because they think he’s untouchable.

This could well be because NBA teams are not exactly enthusiastic about the former All-Star.

During an appearance on 92.3 The Fan, Cavaliers insider Jason Lloyd said Garland’s stock has “dropped significantly.” He added that he has spoken to several teams around the league, all of whom said they value Jarrett Allen higher than Garland.

Lloyd added that Cleveland does not want to “give away” Garland and that his disappointing performance last season and his contract “might make it difficult to create value for him.”

He doesn’t seem to be entirely convinced that the Cavs necessarily want to keep their core four of Donovan Mitchell, Garland, Allen and Evan Mobley.

“I would say we will see,” Lloyd warned.

Lloyd added that he is not “100 percent” ready to say that the Cavaliers will definitely bring back all four of their key players next season.

Garland averaged 18 points and 6.5 assists in 33.4 minutes per game last season, shooting 44.6 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from the three-point line and 83.4 percent from the free throw line, and averaged just 0.067 win shares per 48 minutes.

To make matters worse, Garland struggled in the playoffs, averaging 15.7 points and 5.8 assists per night on shooting percentages of 42.7/35.2/81.0.

We’ll see what Cleveland decides during the offseason.

Things have been quiet around the Cavs so far. That much is certain.
