Why Simone Biles’ floor routine caught Taylor Swift’s attention

Entertainment gossip and news from the Newsweek staff network

Simone Biles chose a special song for her floor exercise at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Qualifiers on Friday, and Taylor Swift is all in.

On the second day of the competition on June 28, Biles wowed the audience with an incredible floor routine that began with Swift’s hit “Ready For It.” In the video shared by the official website, NBC Olympic and Paralympic Games X (formerly known as Twitter), 27-year-old Biles showed off a series of impressive somersaults, all in her pursuit of a spot on the 2024 Olympic gymnasts’ team.

Swift, 34, quickly noticed the performance after it was posted and promptly left a response. “Watched this so many times and I’m still not ready. She’s ready for it though๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโค๏ธ,” the 14-time Grammy winner posted in response on Saturday, June 29, while attending the European leg of her Epoch Tour Dublin.

Fans loved the pop star’s response to the team’s post and left their own comments in the thread. “Oh Taylor is supporting Simone! We love seeing this!” one fan commented excitedly. Another posted, “When are we going to add one of those flips to the ‘Ready for It’ choreography?” and suggested that Swift should use some of Biles’ epic moves in her next performance.

The official announcement of the women’s gymnastics team came a few days later on Sunday, June 30. Biles, a seven-time Olympic medalist, secured her spot, making her third Olympic appearance. Biles’ return is especially notable after she dramatically dropped out of the 2020 Tokyo Games due to “twisties,” a mental block that affects gymnasts’ spatial awareness in the air.

Meanwhile, Swift continues her highly successful Epoch Tourwhich wrapped up a series of shows in Dublin, Ireland on Sunday. Her boyfriend Travis Kelce flew all the way from California for the third night of the stop and surprised Swift with his performance. The “Getaway Car” singer and Kelce, also 34, were spotted after the show enjoying a night out at a local pub with music legend Stevie Nicks, among others.
