“Weird Al” Yankovic stars in the song “Deja Vu” at the first presidential debate

Parody musical legend “Weird Al” Yankovic was prominently featured in a newly released music video by Schmoyoho that poked fun at the CNN debate.

The song’s title, “Deja Vu (But Worse),” refers to the fact that this year’s presidential election could be a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, as both are the likely nominees of their respective parties. In the video, Yankovic can be seen as a CNN moderator at the first presidential debate, singing the questions to the candidates while footage of Biden and Trump from the debate plays in response.

“I think I’m having déjà vu, just me and the same two guys,” sings Yankovic. “Have we fallen victim to a wizard’s curse and are we experiencing even worse déjà vu? My frontal lobe hurts!”

The video also includes a CNN headline saying voters thought the first debate would be a continuation of the 2020 election cycle, but instead it was “a horror reboot.” The headline surfaced as Yankovic compared the 2024 election cycle to bad movie sequels, including Home Sweet Home Alone And Shrek the Third.

Schmoyoho, known on YouTube for his countless music videos “singing” various politicians and internet memes, has collaborated with Yankovic twice before, both times on presidential debate music videos. The first video, from 2016, “Bad Hombres, Nasty Women,” featured Yankovic as a moderator between Trump and then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, while the second video, from 2020, “WE’RE ALL DOOMED,” featured Yankovic again in the moderator role between Trump and Biden.

At the first presidential debate, Biden and Trump faced off on questions about how they would handle various issues affecting the country, including the economy, global security and border security. Many considered Biden’s performance at the debate disappointing, and some questioned whether the president should step down if he seeks re-election in 2024.

First Lady Jill Biden, however, brushed aside concerns about her husband, saying the president will “always do what is best for the country.” She added that he will not allow Thursday night’s debate to define his presidency and that the Biden family will “fight on.”
