Simon Cowell criticizes singer for invitation to audition for new boy band

One singer reacted really brutally when he was asked if he wanted to be part of Simon Cowell’s next boy band.

Last month, X-Factor boss Simon, 64, announced that following the global success of One Direction, he was on the hunt for the next big boy band to follow in the footsteps of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne.

Simon announced his new business venture by taking to the streets of London with a clever marketing strategy and posing in front of a huge sign that read: “Simon needs you! Future megastars wanted for new boy band. No time wasters.”

Carrying a paintbrush and a bucket of poster paste, the Britain’s Got Talent judge drew a crowd and claimed he was intervening again because “there hasn’t been a successful boy band since 1D.”

However, the search seems to be quite chaotic from the beginning.

When Simon’s team contacted him, Fin shared the Instagram direct messages with his fans – yes, fans… since he is already part of a group.

The Stone member, whose debut album is due out in July, was not impressed and wanted to share this with the person who contacted him.

On TikTok, he said: “I received this message from someone on behalf of Simon Cowell.”

He filmed his phone screen to prove the message was real and read it out.

The direct message began: “Hi Fin. I’m contacting you on behalf of Simon Cowell! We’re working with him to find singers aged 16-18 for a new boy band. The video will be filmed as part of a possible TV documentary following him on his search.”

It continued: “The company following Simon Cowell is BTBSC Series Ltd, trading as Box-to-Box Films. I would be happy to give you more information on how to audition for this if you are interested.”

The message ended with an assurance to the recipient that his information would be treated “confidentially.”

While Simon has no time for “time wasters,” Fin has no time for him either, as he sent a very stern response.

“Tell Simon Cowell to f**k himself. Team 1D,” he wrote, showing the camera as proof.

Fin then left the picture and explained that he had nothing more to say to the music mogul and his people.

The Liverpool musician received a ton of support and praise in the comments. TikTok user nettyhenshaw wrote: “No sane person would go anywhere near Simon Cowell.”

User izzzzavibe praised: “You are SO REAL for this 😭 good for you too”.

“I think this is great, I can only agree!! Always Team 1D 🫶,” repeated sarahlou207.

In fact, Simon is not exactly a hero in the eyes of 1D fans, even though he was there from the beginning when the band was formed on The X Factor in 2010, before they rose to unprecedented fame.

In the past, Simon and co. have been accused of mismanaging the boy band, who were all catapulted into the crazy world of showbiz while still teenagers.

As a result, people like Liam said he struggled with addiction and depression after 1D split. Liam took an indefinite hiatus in 2015 and later pursued solo careers.

Zayn, the only member to officially leave the group in March of the same year, also spoke about an eating disorder, while Louis spoke openly about losing contact with Simon in recent years.

Recently, Simon has faced heavy criticism for his comments about One Direction and his biggest regret.

In an episode of the podcast The Diary of a CEO, Simon reflected on his greatest career achievements and told host Steven Bartlett that he regrets not owning the band’s name.

“The only thing I regret is that I should have kept the name,” the manager admitted.

He then explained that the singers of “What Makes You Beautiful” had the rights to the name.

“That’s the problem,” the entrepreneur continued. “I could have made an animation or something like that, but when you give an artist a name, you don’t own it – and that’s my only regret.”

Then he jokingly turned to the singers: “If you listen, I’ll buy it back from you.”

Angry over his comments, 1D fans attacked Simon on social media, accusing him of “exploiting” the members.

Unfortunately, his search for a boy band doesn’t seem to be taking off, and, well, K-pop fans certainly don’t care, as they were quick to criticise Simon for ignoring Korean acts like BTS and their global fame.

Oh dear…

Representatives for Simon Cowell have been contacted for comment.
