Elite tight end changes decision date, Michigan football still battling Alabama

When it comes to Michigan football’s 2025 recruiting class, there aren’t many candidates ranked higher than Andrew Olesh.

The four-star tight end from Pennsylvania, who is ranked 130th in the class of 2025 and the No. 5 tight end according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, was expected to announce his commitment on Monday, but according to Brian Dohn of 247 Sports, the commitment announcement will not come until July 8.

It’s hard to say why a decision might be delayed. Michigan football has been battling with Alabama for Olesh and those two teams are clearly the best at this point. Alabama started to push harder after the official visit to Michigan and all the expert projections/crystal balls that followed for UM.

The Wolverines have a lot to offer at the tight end position. Michigan has had a strong tight end in the last two drafts and Colston Loveland is being drafted in the first round this season. The Wolverines have done a great job at the position and Steve Casula should be able to maintain that.

So it will be interesting to see how this game plays out. There have been no signs of Alabama taking the lead, but with the signing deadline now set for July 8, the Crimson Tide have another week to turn things around.

That’s concerning. We’ve seen late reversals with other signings as well, like Maxwell Roy, who was set to commit to Ohio State on Monday. UM was also trending with Hardy Watts and has now committed to Wisconsin.

Hopefully that doesn’t happen with Olesh, but it will be interesting to see if Michigan can maintain the momentum it built after the official visit.
