Barack Obama’s famous chewing gum habit once caused Trump to fly into a fit of rage

Not long after breaking protocol in China, Barack Obama dug himself into even deeper trouble in India. Invited as guest of honour at the Republic Day parade in January 2015, the former president was once again spotted chewing nicotine gum. Even more outrageous, the Times of India reported that Obama took the gum out of his mouth when Prime Minister Modi was speaking to him. The newspaper called it an “unpleasant sight” and some commentators on X found it “lowbrow.”

The same goes for Donald Trump. Although he was still six months away from announcing his own presidential ambitions, he was still happy to air his views on social media. He posted a video on his Instagram account in which he minced his words. “People in India are going crazy because President Obama kept chewing gum!” he yelled. “And then he took it out of his mouth and put it back in. You can’t do that – it’s disgusting!”

The rant garnered thousands of likes and nods of approval, with many agreeing with Trump’s sentiment that chewing gum was gross. “I love this video because I’m a clean freak and I hate gum,” said one follower. However, one fan had a different opinion on the matter. Although they laughed and said Trump should be a “part-time comedian,” they added, “It’s gross, (you’re) TOTALLY RIGHT… Lol but I’m wondering why you brought that up and what that has to do with your campaign or Making America Great.”
