Fire destroys gazebo at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Delaware

MIDDLETOWN, Del. (WPVI) – An investigation is currently underway into the cause of a fire at a golf course in Delaware.

Flames were seen shooting out of a building at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown on Wednesday afternoon.

Former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski, who manages the club, was there when it happened.

He said the burned-down building was uninhabited.

It took the fire department more than an hour to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

The club is postponing its one-year anniversary concert planned for Thursday.

“This morning there was a major building fire in our pavilion. First of all, we are happy that no one was injured, but we are saddened by the unexpected event.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the first responders who responded quickly and effectively to this incident. Their professionalism and bravery were critical to the safety of everyone involved and prevented the fire from spreading further. Thank you to firefighters from Newark, Smyrna, Townsend, Christiana, Odessa, Port Penn, Middletown, Delaware City, New Castle, the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office and New Castle County EMS

Our team has begun taking all necessary measures to ensure that our operations continue smoothly tomorrow.

Tomorrow, June 20th, the Grille will be closed and our one-year anniversary concert will be postponed. However, golf operations will continue as planned.

We thank you for your understanding and support during this time.”
