A fun and unforgettable place for families

Mount Kisco, NY — If you’re looking for plenty of summer fun for the whole family, look no further than Willowbrook Swim & Tennis Club. Thanks to its close connection to the community, the club offers its members a wide range of exciting summer recreation programs.

Willowbrook opened in 1965 as a solution to a community that lacked a public pool. At the time, a vote was taken to build a public pool in town, but the resolution was defeated. As a result, several swim and tennis clubs were formed and began operating in the Chappaqua area – including Willowbrook Swim & Tennis.

Since 1965, Willowbrook has provided a family-friendly place where children of all ages can turn off their devices, relax, play, swim and enjoy outdoor activities.

And the adults love it, too. Harriet Engel, president of Willowbrook’s board of directors, described the diverse offerings, which range from monthly ice cream meetups, regular wine and beer tastings, to board games and bingo days. There’s even a book club!

At a post-Fourth of July event on July 6, members can enjoy a bouncy castle and water slide, and treats like popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy.

In addition to the swimming pool, Har-tru tennis courts and two new pickleball courts, Willowbrook members also have access to Somers National Golf Club thanks to a reciprocal agreement between the two clubs.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about Willowbrook is its highly successful swim team: every child has the opportunity to participate. Engel mentioned, “Our swim team is the most successful swim team in Northwest Westchester. Many competitive swimmers from the city started here; this was their very first swim team.”

Engel’s own three children started swimming at Willowbrook. “That was their very first swim team and now they’re all swimming in college; that’s the case with a lot of competitive swimmers in the area.”

In fact, the Horace Greeley High School swim team was featured in this very press last year to recognize its accomplishment in becoming the first Horace Greeley team to win state championships three years in a row. Engel said, “Some of these guys started swimming here and still swim here on the team.”

The swimming success stories are likely due to the great staff and swim coaching that Willowbrook offers.

One trainer who has become a legend is Kelly Blacker.

Blacker is the head coach at Willowbrook and the year-round swim coach for the USA Swimming team at Storm Aquatics. Engel added, “Of the pool clubs in Chappaqua, we are the only ones that have a USA Swimming swim coach who expertly teaches the kids the strokes.”

Several children as young as five years old began their careers in the kiddie pool, joined the swim team, and went on to become competitive college swimmers such as Eric Engel, Oliver Engel, and Connor McHugh. Willowbrook members can take advantage of certified swim lessons, tennis camps, and classes with experienced coaches and staff who care about people and the community.

Ultimately, Willowbrook is about family bonding and making memories. Engel said, “My family has been here for 20 years; my kids grew up here, I think it’s a great family environment.”
